On Tuesday some of our Year 8s and some from Saint John the Baptist (SJB) @sjb_surrey took part in an engineering challenge for the day. This involved planning and making a device under one of these categories: -an educational toy for a child age 5-7, -a device that disabled people can use, -a helpful device for sports. The day consisted of first planning and designing what we were going to build. Then we had to build and test our design, we were given fake money and had to deal with having a budget on the materials available to us. Finally we presented a model to the judge which was part of what we were tested on, as well as how eco friendly our designs were. This was a really fun experience and it also helped us to learn about future careers in engineering. Well done to SJB for having the winning design which was a way for mute people to share their emotions. Thank you to Mrs Gliniecka for organising this wonderful experience. And thank you to the IET, Mrs K Winter, who ran the day and all made it possible for us to open our eyes to the world of engineering. #FaradayChallenge #STEM #Year8
