Exams & Data
We are very proud of the hard work and achievements of our founding students here at Hoe Valley School and delighted with the outcomes and progress they have made since joining the School in 2015.
GCSE Results 2024
In a year that saw GCSE grades fall nationally and a return to tighter grade boundaries (pre-pandemic), we’re pleased to report results at Hoe Valley School & Sixth form have ‘bucked’ the national trend and increased from last year.
75.17% achieved grade 9-4 (national average 67.4%), 62% achieved grade 9-5 (national average 54%) and most pleasingly 27% achieved 9-7 (national average 22%).
Mrs Davies (Headteacher) said, “I’m immensely proud of the students, parents, carers and of course my amazing team I have here at Hoe Valley School & Sixth Form. To have actually improved our academic outcomes from last year, with grade boundaries increasing; is a testament to the resilience demonstrated by not only our Year 11s; but our entire community who have helped so much in supporting our young people over the last several years.”
Congratulations again to all our wonderful Year 11 students and we look forward to seeing many of you return to us in September to join our Sixth Form. For those of you who will move onto other colleges and apprenticeships, we wish you all the very best and encourage you to join our Alumni.
A Level Results 2024
It feels like it was only yesterday we opened our doors to begin delivering A levels at Hoe Valley Sixth Form and just as quickly as those doors were opened, we’ve already begun to see our first set of A level results come through.
Over half of all A level grades awarded were A*-B (55%). Perhaps most pleasingly is the A*-C, which saw Hoe Valley pupils achieve 91%, compared to early reports of the national average of 76%. Naturally we’re immensely proud of our first small cohort's set of results. We’re also very pleased to report that all of our students are
going off to their first choice prestigious universities, all thanks to both their hard work and the endeavours of our amazing teachers at Hoe Valley.
Mrs. Davies (Headteacher) commented, “Hoe Valley has, and always will be a school built for the local community and these results reflect what this community is truly
capable of. I’d like to thank not only the students and teachers, but our parents & carers as well who have supported us and these amazing young people”.
Again, a huge congratulations to our A level students for their incredible efforts and thank you from all of us at Hoe Valley School and Sixth Form, for being brave enough to join us in our first year of A levels.
EBacc
The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is an accountability measure for schools in England. It measures the proportion of students who achieve a pass in English, Maths, Science, a humanity (History or Geography) and a language GCSE. Arts subjects are not included. At Hoe Valley School we offer French, German, Spanish and Latin as languages, but students can also sit exams in other languages they speak. For example, we have had students sit their Cantonese, Turkish and Russian GCSEs amongst a number of others. If your son or daughter wishes to take a GCSE in a home language, please do let us know and arrangements can be made to support this.
In the Summer 2022 exams, 30% of our students were entered for the EBacc suite of qualifications and 19% of students achieved the EBacc.
Given the uneven impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the government has said you should not make direct comparisons between the performance data for one school or college and another, or to data from previous years.

JCQ Regulations, exam related policy documents and resources
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) oversees all external GCSEs. Below you will find the JCQ regulations for candidates who have started their GCSE courses (Year 9 onwards) that cover all coursework elements and the formal examinations, as well as other exam-related policy documents and resources for parents.
